Saved around £400 on a flight from London to Sydney with a great airline!
I was concerned after reading mixed reviews but decided it was worth saving the money.
Had a bit of a weird experience where I had to wait about 3 days for my booking to be 'ticketed'. Meaning my seat was reserved but not confirmed with the airline.
I called StudentUniverse with this concern, and they assured me that it would be ticketed today (which it was) and that the booking was confirmed. There was low wait times when calling the customer service team, which was good.
One thing I will say is, do not pay the extra money to reserve a meal/seat (which I did), they did not give me my selected seat or meal requested. However, I could select both of these (and change them at a later date) for FREE through the airline. Wasted about £20 on this.
Overall, I am pleased with my experience.

Totally unworkable system they have in place
I've just tried to book flights to Abu Dhabi with Student Universe. What a nightmare! Booking the flights was straight forward but had to jump through hoops with the information they wanted afterwards and payments just wouldn't go through on their system. Had to send loads of documentation before they would release the seats to us. They would phone in the middle of the night not taking into consideration the time difference (they were calling from America). In the end our tickets were cancelled and had to start the process all over again but the ticket price had gone up. They had half of the money for the tickets. Now waiting for the refund. They put the tickets up the next day so it was very little difference. Prices were good but I just wouldn't trust them.
Booked direct with the airline instead, job done in five minutes, so much easier.

Asking for photos of my credit card and ID and a 3 hour window to reply!
I've never been asked this by any other travel site. Had I been booking something last minute and missed the window this would be incredibly stressful. At least right not it's just very annoying and got me worried about fraud with the copies of my documents.
I was booked onto a flight which did not exist! Do not take the risk!
Please don’t take the risk of booking through Student Universe!! They booked me onto a flight which did not exist! I booked a flight from London to KL and received confirmation of this flight all fine. When I went to check in 48 hours before my flight, I realised I was booked on a completely different flight 12 hours before the one I thought I had booked. I had to then pay £320 to change onto a later flight (which I did get refunded for after chasing them) which was a very stressful experience. Customer service was fairly good as they did acknowledge their mistake but were not apologetic. All in all, it was a nightmare and not worth it for the cheaper fare!

The key thing happened - I bought a flight on Virgin for £500 instead of £977 and it was real… now I don’t know about their customer service and I am assuming it’s terrible from the reviews, but if you are buying a non-refundable ticket and intend to board the flight it works!!!

Atrocious
Atrocious! Do not use! I booked a flight, paid and received confirmation only to then find that my domestics flights were not even booked! Sent me an email to say this will be resolved in 24-48 hours. Nothing was resolved, received no calls/emails to say that they have not been able to confirm flights. It was not until I called them after 3 days for them to give me the option of getting a refund!! Annoyed!

Refundable/cancellation fees
Staff over the phone were unable to tell me if a flight was refundable before booking. I wanted to double check this as this flight was £1300! I advised their website said to contact them regarding cancellation fees and I was told I could only be given this information after I have a flight booked. Staff could not understand what I was asking them. A very difficult experience and I am having to purchase elsewhere, which is a shame because this was the cheapest flight for my trip.

1 star is one too many. I booked a refundable flight back from America and later had to cancel it as my plans had changed. I was in touch with student universe as soon as I realized I couldn’t take the flight. I have been unable to get a refund, just told that non refundable and if I pay £75 then they can give me some flight credit, which I will not be able to use as it is so restrictive and has to be used almost immediately. DO NOT TRUST
Edit: after posting this I have been told that my flight was non refundable despite me booking it as refundable.

my flight was non-changeable & non refundable but I did get a refund :)
I had a flight from manchester to jfk, but my american student visa didn’t come in time so I had to cancel my flight. When I booked the flight it said it was non changeable and non refundable but I rang up anyway just to try my luck. Anyway, I had to pay a £75 cancellation fee(I expected that) but I received a good chunk of my flight money back within a few days. The guy on the phone was really helpful and all round I had a good experience.

Spoke to Nicole today about cancelling a flight, she was amazing. She confirmed every detail with me to make sure I understand fully how the cancellation process worked and any fees that needed to be charged. Definitely using student universe again.

Short wait times and helpful customer service
Reading the reviews before I booked I was fearful… especially when I came down with covid 19 2 days before my flight and had to reach out to them for support and a refund. To my surprise the call wait time was only a few mins (which is amazing compared to other competitors) and the call agents were all very helpful. In the end I was able to get a refund minus some fees (to be expected as I didn’t pay extra for cancellations) and they followed up with written communication too. Will give it 5 stars once the refund hits my bank account but overall very impressed and would use them again.
